Willie "Watsee" Charles Murphy

Willie "Watsee" Charles Murphy, a beloved figure in his community and a skilled cook, departed this world on June 10, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on September 12, 1959, Willie was a vibrant spirit known for his warmth, culinary talents, and unwavering love for his family.

For over 15 years, Willie dedicated himself to the Isle of Capri as a cook, where his delicious meals brought joy to countless patrons. His passion for cooking extended beyond his professional life; it was a way for him to express love and care for those around him. Whether he was whipping up family favorites or sharing music while mowing lawns, Willie found joy in every moment spent bringing people together.

Willie's educational journey began in the Vicksburg Public School System and continued at Hinds Community College and Shonda Community College. He cherished learning and was proud of the knowledge he gained, which he often shared with those he loved.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Ashley Murphy of Vicksburg, MS; his grandson, Jayceon Robertson, also of Vicksburg; and his son, Ashton Lyons of Vicksburg, MS. Willie's legacy continues through his grandchildren, including Ja’leah Lyons, Jaydeon Lyons, Javion Lyons, and Jaylen Lyons, all residing in Vicksburg, MS. He is also survived by his sister, Carrie (Robert) Bolls, of Vicksburg, MS; and his cherished nieces and nephews: Vanessa (William) Townsel, Latarshah (Juan) Rangel, and Angela Phillips, along with Carlton (Mesha) Phillips and LaKendrick (Pamela) Phillips. A host of other family and friends will also remember him fondly.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Carrie Harris; father, Ernest Murphy; brother, John Harris; and niece, Robbin (Douglas) Bolls Williams. Though their physical presence is no longer with us, their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved them.

A Visitation will be held in his honor on June 20, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM  with family present from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service on June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church, 2715 Alcorn Dr., Vicksburg, MS.

As we gather to celebrate Willie "Watsee" Charles Murphy’s life, we hold dear the many memories he gifted us, and we will honor his legacy with the same love and passion he shared throughout his life. His spirit will live on in each of us, forever shaping our lives with his joy, laughter, and resilience.
