Willie Liggins, born on August 18, 1957, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, departed this life on May 8, 2025. He is remembered for his significant contributions both in his culinary career and as a loving family member.
Willie dedicated most of his professional life to cooking, honing his skills in various restaurants throughout his career. In 1995, he relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where he continued to build his expertise in the culinary arts. Subsequently, he moved to San Francisco, California, where he worked as a cook at the Holiday Inn. His passion for cooking and his commitment to the hospitality industry left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
A graduate of Vicksburg High School, Willie's early education provided a foundational knowledge that he would carry throughout his life. Additionally, he served his country honorably in the United States Army as a Culinary Specialist, showcasing his dedication both in and out of the kitchen.
Willie leaves behind a rich legacy of cherished memories to be held close by his family. He is survived by his brother, Earl Liggins of Omaha, NE; two sisters, Joyce (Clifton) Harris of Omaha, NE, and Carolyn (Alex) Jackson of Vicksburg, MS; two stepbrothers, John (Betty) Parson and Willie Lewis (Isabelle) Parson; and two stepsisters, Annie Mae Houston and Dorothy Stewart, all residing in Vicksburg, MS. Also remembering Willie are two nephews, Alaric Vaughn (Melodie) and Alex (Rena) Jackson, Jr.; five nieces, Victoria (Tyron) Turner, Demetrius, Shameka, and Murriel Harris, all from Omaha, NE, and Priscilla Jackson of Vicksburg, MS; along with two aunts, Evelyn Phillips of Vicksburg, MS, and Dan Ethel Blackmon of St. Louis, MO. Willie is also remembered by a host of great-nieces and nephews and other family members, including the Phillips, Rawlings, Coleman, Butler, Barnes, Stevenson, and Heads families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Tommie Lee Liggins, and a sister, Jacqueline Liggins.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will take place on May 30, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM, culminating at 12:00 PM.
Willie Liggins leaves behind not only memories but also a testament to the lives he touched through his culinary artistry and the love he shared with family and friends.
