William Howard Holmes Jr. departed this life on September 18, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on the warm summer day of August 14, 1956, William's life was a tapestry woven with threads of love, resilience, and an unwavering dedication to others.

Educated in the Jefferson County School System, he carried with him not only a wealth of knowledge but also a deep appreciation for the community that shaped him. Following his graduation, William embarked on a remarkable journey, moving to Vicksburg, MS, where he devoted over 35 years to driving cabs. In this role, he became more than just a transporter of passengers; he cultivated genuine relationships with his riders, creating a spirit of camaraderie that made them feel like one big happy family. His stories and laughter will be missed, echoing along the streets of Vicksburg, where he was a familiar figure.

William was a man of many passions. He reveled in the thrill of football, always a steadfast supporter of the Washington Redskins. Additionally, his enthusiasm for wrestling captivated him, allowing him to share joyful moments with friends and family alike. His heart, however, beat in rhythm with his love for automobiles, particularly Fords, which reflected his enduring spirit of adventure and exploration.

Throughout his life, he shared profound connections with many. His loving daughters, Sharon Barker of Fayette, MS; Tyiesha Pegues and Renise Agee-Holt (Cortez) of Vicksburg, MS, are a testament to his nurturing spirit, each carrying forth pieces of his legacy. He took immense pride in his grandchildren: Trennis Gooden, Tremilla Gooden, and Titus Gooden from Fayette, MS; T’Kiya Pegues and Marcus Evans, Jr. (Mane, Mane) of Vicksburg, MS; Kentrell Queen and Sheniqua Merritt of Fayette, MS; Cornelius Merritt; Melody Holt; and Destiny Holt of Vicksburg, MS. Each grandchild reflects the love and devotion he poured into his family.

William is survived by his sister, Mamie Holmes of Fayette, MS, along with his niece, Monica Holmes Brown (Clifford) of Pearl, MS, and nephew, David Houston, Jr. of Fayette, MS. He cherished his uncles, Charles Holmes (Corine) of Vicksburg, MS; Edwin Holmes; and Huey Holmes, Sr. (Marie) of Natchez, MS, as well as his aunt, Edith Banks of Las Vegas, Nevada. The love he shared extended to a vast network of great nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends, all of whom carry pieces of his spirit.

William was predeceased by his parents, William and Helen Holmes, along with the guiding forces of his grandparents, Frazier and Fannie Holmes; Henrietta and Monroe Tenner, and his beloved daughter, Carisa Queen Merritt. Their memories remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

As friends and family gather to celebrate his life, they will remember a man whose proudest accomplishments reside in the countless ways he helped others. He truly invested himself in making a difference wherever he could, leaving a lasting impact on the lives he touched.
