Michael Oscar Thompson, lovingly known as Mike, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 12, 2026, at the age of 73.
Born on December 16, 1952, Mike graduated from Pearl High School and continued his education at Hinds Junior College before answering the call to serve his country. He proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he developed the discipline, integrity, and sense of duty that shaped the rest of his life.
Following his military service, Mike began a long and fulfilling career with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. As a dedicated Game Warden, he found great purpose in protecting the land, wildlife, and people of Mississippi. He truly loved his work and the community he served.
Mike was married to the love of his life, Merry Thompson, for 24 wonderful years. Together they raised two children and were blessed with two granddaughters who brought him immense joy.
A proud resident of Eagle Lake, Mike cherished the people and the close-knit community he called home. He formed countless lifelong friendships and was known for his kindness, loyalty, and easygoing spirit.
Mike is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Merry Thompson; his parents, Beatrice and Oscar Thompson; and his sister, Carole Netherland.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Ashley Corkern, along with her two daughters Alexis Ables and Kennedy Corkern; and his son, Nick Thompson; sisters, Patricia Thompson Wilson (Stan) and Tammy Thornton (Dion); along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
