Melvin Martez Harris

Melvin Martez Harris, born on October 17, 1993, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, passed away on August 31, 2025. He was a beloved son, brother, and father whose spirit touched the lives of many. Known for his radiant smile, infectious laughter, and an enormous heart, Melvin was well-known and much-loved within his community.

Melvin's educational journey began in Vicksburg as well as Port Gibson, Mississippi. His commitment to self-improvement and determination led him to obtain his GED in 2013, a testament to his perseverance and dedication.

He is survived by his devoted mother, Tammy Lynn Harris, and his cherished son, Melvin Martez Harris Jr., affectionately known as "MJ." Melvin is also survived by his siblings: Cherelle Harris, Quvorris "Main" Harris, Brittney Bryant, Sha'Cortney Reed (Christian Brooks) of Houston, Texas, and Adrian Cox Jr. of Jackson, Mississippi. The love and support of his family were central to Melvin’s life, providing joy and strength.

Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Adrian Cox Sr., and his paternal grandparents, Harry Cox and Flora Celestine Becks. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Melvin and Daisy Harris, who undoubtedly left a lasting impact on his upbringing.

A visitation will be held to honor Melvin's life on September 20, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Following this, a funeral service will take place on September 21, 2025, at 2:00 PM, also at C J Williams Mortuary Center.
