Mary Watkins Lovette, a cherished member of her community and devoted matriarch, passed away on March 27, 2026. Born on September 13, 1950, Mary’s life was marked by unwavering faith, dedication to family, and caring service to others.
Mary attended Henry Weathers High School in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, where she laid the foundation for a life grounded in hard work and compassion. Her career was a testament to her generous spirit, beginning with her employment at Pemberton Cafeteria and later serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Trace Haven Nursing Home. Even as her health declined, Mary remained committed to caring for others, demonstrating the depth of her kindness and dedication.
A woman of profound faith, Mary accepted Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Mt. Zion #1 Missionary Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where she held a place of honor as a faithful and active member. Her commitment extended beyond attendance; Mary served diligently on the Usher Board until her passing, embodying the church’s mission through her steadfast service.
Mary’s life will be celebrated through a series of services held in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Family, friends, and the community are welcomed to pay their respects beginning with a visitation on April 10, 2026, at the C J Williams Mortuary Center. The following day, a viewing will also take place at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, culminating in a heartfelt Celebration of Life at Mt. Zion #1 Missionary Baptist Church. These gatherings will provide a space for reflection on Mary’s remarkable journey and the profound impact she had on those around her.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory. Her five sons—Morris Lovette (Crista), Marcus Lovette, Abdul Jabbar Lovett, Clarence Lovette, and James Lovette (Lashonada)—stand as pillars of her legacy. She is also survived by her six daughters: Bridgette Watkins, Erma Jean Lovette, Linda Lovette, Victoria Lovette, Jamaca Lovette, and Latrina Lovette. Mary’s sisters, Mattie Hall and Lillie Macon of Vicksburg, MS, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, mourn her loss and celebrate her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Roosevelt Watkins, Sr., and Annie Bell Watkins Braxton, as well as her brothers Roosevelt Watkins, Jr., and David Dillard. She was also preceded by her sisters Mary Wilson, Annie Mae Dillard, and Dorothy Ann Earl.
Mary Watkins Lovette’s life was one of faith, service, and family devotion. Her spirit and kindness have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. As her loved ones gather to remember her, they do so with hearts full of gratitude for the time shared and the love she so generously gave. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing her.
