Lovenia Marailyn Ramakanthan, a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and beloved member of the Ameristar family, passed away on April 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and an incomparable spirit that touched all who knew her. Born on December 26, 1976, at Kuhn Memorial Hospital in Vicksburg, Mississippi, she was the treasured daughter of Henry Lee Stevenson and Mary Loraine Johnson.

From an early age, Lovenia demonstrated a remarkable blend of intelligence, wit, and compassion, qualities that defined her vibrant personality. Blessed with a dazzling smile that could illuminate any room and an energy so soothing it could calm a village, she was, by all accounts, a true queen in her own right—a diva adorned with grace, strength, and warmth. Lovenia’s radiant spirit and endearing presence were gifts to those fortunate enough to cross her path.

Her educational journey began at Clinton High School, where she earned her diploma in 1995. Fueled by a desire to help and nurture, she went on to obtain an associate’s degree in social work, paving the way for a career focused on service and care. Before finding her lifelong calling, Lovenia worked various jobs, but it was at Ameristar, where she devoted 26 years of faithful and committed service as a slot technician, that she truly blossomed. There, she created a second family, a community she loved dearly and that loved her in return.

Lovenia was more than a dedicated professional; she was a beloved aunt who embraced her role as “auntie-mom” with heartfelt devotion to Derricka, Kaylynn, Hailey (Carlos), Derrick, Darren, and Karla. Though she had no children of her own, her love and care shaped the lives around her profoundly.

Among her treasured relationships, none was as inseparable as the bond she shared with her sister Lashanna—her closest confidant and best friend. Together, they created a world seemingly theirs alone, a sisterly connection so deep that only death could attempt to part them. Lovenia also leaves cherished memories with her siblings Shannaka Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers Barry Johnson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Jason Johnson of Beaumont, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews who carry forward her legacy of love.

Her life was rich with family and friendship, including her blessed “bonus” parents, great-aunt Lucille Byrd Davis and Uncle Richard Lee Davis, Jr., who nurtured her heart. Lovenia also leaves behind a loving extended family: bonus brothers Richard, Frank, Jimmie, Jessie, Milton, Ricky, Eveline, Diane, Rosie, and Demetris along with aunts Olivia Haggan, Joyce Anderson, James Johnson, and greataunts Rosie Slaughter, Lucy Davenport, and Willie Davis. The many families of Ameristar Casino, Davenport, Slaughter, and Davis also mourn the loss of a beloved member whose influence was immeasurable.

Lovenia’s favorite holiday was Halloween, a time she eagerly anticipated, embodying the joy and playful spirit that endeared her to so many. Her memory will remain alive in the hearts of all who knew her vibrant soul and generous heart.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents Henry Byrd and Luella May Stevenson; maternal grandparents Will Johnson and Josephine Thompson Johnson Kenney; siblings Henrey Johnson, Michael Johnson, and David Miller, Jr.; beloved bonus parents Richard Jr. and Lucille Davis; bonus siblings Robert Davis, Willie Davis, Luke Lee, Leroy Watson, Doris Patton, and Lucille Williams; as well as aunts and uncles Levirdia Johnson, Edna Williams, Leanna Patterson, Jessie Johnson, Timothy Johnson, and Leflore Johnson.

A visitation to honor Lovenia’s life will take place on May 8, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Following this, her Celebration of Life will be held on May 9, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM and concluding at noon, offering all who loved her a chance to gather, remember, and find comfort in shared stories and the enduring power of love.

Lovenia Marailyn Ramakanthan’s journey may have ended, but the light she brought into this world will forever shine brightly in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched. In her memory, we hold tightly to the love she gave and the extraordinary person she was—a true queen whose spirit will reign eternally.
