Leonard Herman Jones, a cherished member of his community and family, passed away on July 18, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on August 23, 1949, Leonard was a proud native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he would go on to leave an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Leonard's life was one marked by service and dedication. He valiantly served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971, embodying the spirit of duty and commitment. After his military service, he embarked on a career at the Waterways Experiment Station, where he worked diligently until his retirement, contributing to important engineering projects that supported the nation's infrastructure.

Education was also a significant aspect of Leonard's life. Having been nurtured in the Vicksburg Public School System, he demonstrated exceptional responsibility and maturity from a young age, exemplified by his remarkable achievement of driving the school bus at just 14 years old.

Leonard’s spirit extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was an active member of his church community, serving on the usher board and as a talented member of the male choir. His contributions were a testament to his faith and commitment to uplifting those around him.

He leaves behind a loving family that cherishes his memory. Leonard is survived by his brother, Joseph Spicer of Vicksburg, MS, as well as his three daughters: Shemekia Jones of Vicksburg, MS, LaVisha McDonald of Albion, MI, and Iesha McDonald of Albion, MI. His son, Leonard Jones, Jr., resides in Dallas, TX. Additionally, Leonard is remembered by two aunts, Mary Davis of Vicksburg, MS, and Jean Jones of Albion, MI. His legacy continues with twenty-one grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, including Kemiya Wallace, KeMond Jones, Chauncy Rankin, Jr., Chelsea Rankin, Dwade Carter, Kamar McDonald, Kylor McDonald, JaKrystal McDonald, Kaliyah McDonald, Jermaine Green, Kameron McDonald, Amar Jones, Aireon Jones, Kayden Jones, Lynzaria Jones, Lela Jones, Myeshia Jones, Vincent Jones, Imand Jones, Shyeshia Jones, and Rmand Brown. The love he shared with them will endure through the stories they tell and the lives they lead.

Leonard was born to the late Margaret Jones and the late L.V. Cook and is preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers. His family and friends will always remember him for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering support.

Visitation will take place on July 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS. The funeral service will be held the following day, July 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Valley M B Church at 260 Mississippi 27, Vicksburg, MS, concluding at 3:00 PM.
