Keeslee Jarrell Stewart

Keeslee Jarrell Stewart, affectionately known as KJ, left this world too soon on May 17, 2025, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, at the age of 33. Born on December 17, 1991, KJ was a beacon of light and a source of joy for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

From the earliest days of his life, KJ’s spirit shone brightly. His educational journey began at Bolton-Edwards Elementary and Middle School, laying a strong foundation that would carry him to Hinds County Agricultural High School in Utica, Mississippi. There, he balanced academics with a burgeoning passion for basketball, graduating in May 2010, poised to chase new dreams. KJ proudly earned his Bachelor of Science from Jackson State University on May 2, 2015, a testament to his unwavering determination and perseverance.

Basketball was more than a pastime for KJ; it was a profound love that defined many of his relationships and shaped his character. His journey on the court began under the guidance of Chief Lewis Johnson in AAU basketball, and he continued to impress on teams at Bolton-Edwards, Hinds AHS, and ultimately, Jackson State University. It was here that KJ not only honed his skills but forged lifelong friendships, learning the invaluable lessons of teamwork, leadership, and camaraderie.

KJ’s presence in our lives resonated with a quiet strength that reassured those around him. He was soft-spoken yet profoundly impactful, finding joy in the simple moments of life. His love for his family knew no bounds, particularly evident in the cherished role he played in the lives of his nephews—Jamareon, Tanari, and Jayden—whom he loved and guided as if they were his own. KJ's unwavering loyalty and devotion to all his family members and friends will forever remain in their hearts.

He is survived by his loving parents, Jacqueline and Donnell Stewart of Edwards, MS; and his brother, Donnell Stewart. KJ also leaves behind a rich tapestry of family, including aunts Sharon (Alvin) Blackmon of Dallas, TX; Shirley Williams of Byram, MS; Roberta Corley, Barbara Jelks, both of Jackson, MS and Betty Stevens of Vicksburg, MS ; Jerry Wright and Shirley Wright of Jackson, MS; and Vivian Wright, Gail Wright, and Clyde Evelyn Crump of Edwards, MS; as well as Nicole Stewart of Southaven, MS. His uncles, George Hunter and Johnny Ray Wright, both of Edwards, MS, and an endearing circle of cousins—who were more like siblings to him—namely Lee, Adrienne, Krystal, Khristian, Ebonye, Montoya, Martae, LaTorria, Karnina, and Keishonna, along with his special cousin, Shunterrell.

KJ was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents—Lucille Crump, Joe and Alma Stewart, and Julia Bell Hunter. He also mourns the loss of his aunts, Virginia Downs and Karen Stewart, and uncles, Stanley Stewart, Arthur Crump, Larry Hunter, and Reginald Wright.
