John's journey through life was underpinned by a profound faith that found its anchor in the teachings of Psalm , illuminating his path and guiding his decisions. This faith permeated his being, shaping his interactions and nurturing an indomitable spirit throughout life's trials. He found comfort and expression in music, with “My Way” by Frank Sinatra resonating as an anthem of his individuality and fortitude. Educated in Vicksburg, John graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1974 before progressing to Alcorn State University, where he not only immersed himself in his studies, earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 1980 but also held the esteemed position of student government vice-president. His college years were marked by a dynamic blend of creativity and charisma, as he dabbled in rapping and took the reins as a manager for a local band, earning him the affectionate nickname “Reese the Beast.” His enthusiasm extended beyond music into athletics, where he developed a love for tennis and running, reflecting a spirited competitiveness and personal discipline.
John was a beloved husband to Victoria Fields and a devoted father to Tracey Nikethia Seymour, Jennifer Renee Fields Jones, John Reese Fields Jr., Yoel Rubain Fields, Yahel Reevah Fields, Yahkira Reenana Fields, Yohanna Revekah Fields, Yedidiah Reuel Fields, and Yoseph Ranen Fields, who each carry forward his legacy in their own unique ways. He took great pride in his grandchildren, including Zoey Maryse Jones, Zander Rene Jones, and Yara Rielle Fields, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is survived by his siblings, Thomas Mickens and Marilyn Fields, along with his godbrothers and extended family who remember him with love and fondness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zoe Annetta Fields and Shedwick Fields; his brother, Shedwick "Puggy" Fields Jr.; and many close friends, including Ahviyya Yisrael, Stewart Kees, “Big Mike,” and Michael Reed, each of whom shared a profound connection with John and will forever hold a cherished space in his memory.
