James Odester Green, a beloved patriarch, passed away on February 18, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on November 14, 1939, and dedicated an admirable 35 years of service to Anderson-Tully Lumber Company, where he was both respected and cherished by his colleagues.
James was a man of profound dedication and love for his family. He is survived by his devoted partner of 50 years, Ruth Lewis, and his children: Brenda, James Jr., Patricia, Jessie Mae, Robert, Rodger, Onesimus, L.C., Larry, Anita, Patricia, Terri, Gayle, and Darius. His expansive family also includes six stepchildren, 100 grandchildren, 150 great-grandchildren, 60 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will hold his memory close to their hearts.
James' life was rich with meaningful experiences. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, embracing nature and the outdoors. His infectious laughter and memorable stories lit up every room he entered, reflecting his engaging personality that fostered connections with lifelong friends and new acquaintances alike. James nurtured these relationships with sincerity and care, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Faith played a vital role in James' life. He was a devoted member of Holy Hill Baptist Church in Vicksburg, Mississippi, where he served faithfully and worshipped with heartfelt devotion. His participation in the Mt. Album Male Chorus allowed him to lift his voice in praise, spreading the goodness of Jesus Christ throughout the South. James exemplified his love for the Lord not only through his words but also through a life dedicated to kindness, generosity, and unwavering belief.
In reflection, James was preceded in death by his former wives, Gladys and Dorothy; his daughters, Vera and Luella; his parents, Lueella and Thomas; his sister, Maryann; and his beloved aunt, Ethel Lee. The guidance, wisdom, and presence he imparted have shaped generations, and his legacy will endure through the lives he touched.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on February 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Lewis Family Cemetery, located on Floweree Road in Redwood, Mississippi. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate the remarkable life of a man whose strength, laughter, and support will be forever remembered.
