DeMarcus Justin Baxter Lee, affectionately known as D.J., was born on August 23, 2003, and departed this life far too soon on August 5, 2025. He was a radiant spirit whose presence brought joy to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
D.J. showcased a remarkable talent for sports, excelling in soccer, football, tennis, and, most passionately, basketball, which he cherished playing with his brothers. His dedication to athletics was evident as he not only earned numerous honors such as all-state, all-area, and all-conference during his time at Big Rapids High School, but also committed to further his basketball journey at Grand Rapids Community College before a fateful decision led him to enlist in the United States Army in January 2023. He served honorably with Company A, 1st Squadron, 2d Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany, for a total of two years and six months. His service was marked by commendations, including the posthumous Army Commendation Medal and several other distinguished awards, reflecting his courage and dedication.
D.J. was a beloved son, cherished brother, and admired friend. He leaves behind his mother, Alicia Lee, and father, Demetri Martin Sr. He was a treasured brother to Jeremy Bailey, Demetri Martin Jr., and Dorian Martin. His legacy also lives on through his loving grandmother, Georgia Lee, and grandfather, James Lee. D.J. is survived by his aunt, Sharon Lee, as well as close cousins Linda Lee, Michael Lee, Jasmine Gidron, Jessie Gidron, and Nicolas Lee. He was a guiding light for many nieces, nephews, cousins, great aunts, extended family, and friends who will forever hold dear the memories they shared with him.
D.J. was more than just an athlete; he was a person whose kindness and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone around him. His bright smile and positive spirit could light up even the darkest of days, making him a joy to be around. Known for his humor, respect for others, and big heart, he had an innate ability to make those around him laugh, a quality that will be deeply missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Carol Willis and Charles Martin, his maternal great-grandparents, Rev. Alonzo and Georgia Lee Baxter, and his maternal aunt, Jamie Lynn Lee. Their memories remain an integral part of his story, reminding us of the love and bonds that shape us.
D.J.'s life will be celebrated with a visitation on August 22, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at C J Williams Mortuary Center, located at 1625 Monroe Street, Vicksburg, MS. A Celebration of Life will follow on August 23, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM, allowing all those who knew and loved him to come together in remembrance and honor of a truly remarkable young man.
As we gather to reflect on his life, may we cherish the memories we made with D.J. and find comfort in knowing that his spirit will always shine brightly in our hearts.
