It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charlean Watson McCalpin, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, who left this world on September 30, 2025, at the age of 48. Born on February 11, 1977, Charlean grace the lives of many with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.
Charlean was a proud graduate of Port Gibson High School, class of 1995, where she laid the foundation for a life filled with purpose and compassion. Her legacy as a loving wife of 27 years to Roderick McCalpin stands as a testament to the deep bond they shared. Together, they nurtured and cherished their six beloved children: Takita Watson, D’Kayla Ruffin, D’Ronalda’Nisha Watson, Jarren McCalpin, Rheagan McCalpin, and Ladarrius McCalpin. The light of her life also included her bonus daughter, Breanna Parson, and her two cherished grandchildren, Dantavious Ruffin and A’layna Burden, who brought joy and pride to her heart.
Charlean’s family extended beyond her immediate loved ones. She is survived by a host of aunts, including Willie Farmer, Bertha Dorsey, Margie (Arnette) Nash, Bobbie (Edward) Gusta, and Mary Simmon, as well as her uncles Jimmy (Lin) Watson, Louis Watson, Johnny Payne, and Terry (Mary) Payne. Her memory will also be honored by her mother-in-law, Mary (Ernest) Moore, and Rose Flagg; sisters-in-law Latonya (Bobby) Jones, Keeshia Perkins, and Kimberly (Charles) Swartz; and brother-in-law Johnny Flagg Jr. The bond she shared with her friend and cousin, Katrina Flagg, was steadfast and enduring, highlighting the strength of family ties chosen and born.
In reflecting on Charlean’s life, it is impossible not to mention the profound influence she had on those around her. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Charlie Lee Watson Sr. and Geraldine Watson, whose love and guidance shaped the incredible woman she became. Charlean now joins her paternal grandparents, Joseph Watson and R. Dean Daniel, and maternal grandparents, Robert and Bessie Payne, along with her aunts Sarah Truitt and Georgia Hayes, and uncles Lawrence Watson, Larry Payne, and Johnny Watson. Her absence will also be felt deeply by her father-in-law, Johnny Flagg Sr.
Charlean Watson McCalpin’s spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. A visitation to honor her life will be held on October 4, 2025, from 1 PM to 6 PM, the famiy will be present from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, at C J Williams Mortuary Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Port Gibson on October 5, 2025, beginning at 2 PM.
As we remember Charlean, let us carry forward the love she bestowed upon us each day. Her legacy of dedication to her family and community remains a guiding light, and the memories we've shared will forever be etched in our hearts.
