Barbara Burden White

A Graceful Journey of Faith, Service, and Love

Barbara Jean Burden-White began her life's journey on August 30, 1951, in Tchula, Mississippi. She was born to the late Willie Burden Sr. and Otha Mae Turner. Blessed with determination, compassion, and a heart for service, Barbara lived a meaningful life centered on faith, family, and devotion to others.

Barbara graduated from Temple High School in 1967. Throughout her professional journey, she distinguished herself through her unwavering work ethic and willingness to pursue new opportunities. She began her career at Carter's Baby Clothing, where she worked skillfully as a seamstress. Her desire to care for others inspired her to continue her education, earn a technical degree, and become a Certified Nursing Assistant.

Never one to shy away from a new challenge, Barbara later obtained her Commercial Driver's License and served as a school bus driver for the Vicksburg Warren School District. She further utilized her driving expertise as a shuttle and limousine driver for the Isle of Capri and Ameristar casinos. After many years of faithful and dependable service, Barbara retired, leaving behind a distinguished legacy of professionalism, perseverance, and excellence.

Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She remained a devoted member of Greater Mt. Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Dr. John H. Williams Sr., who will officiate her homegoing celebration. Her faith was more than something she professed; it was the guiding force by which she lived. She delighted in sharing biblical wisdom, offering words of encouragement, and reminding others of God's faithfulness and enduring love.

Among Barbara's greatest blessings was her family. She treasured every opportunity to gather with those she loved and found special delight in family trips. Even the simple tradition of sharing picnics in the car while traveling became a source of joy and cherished memories. Through laughter, conversation, fellowship, and lessons drawn from Scripture, Barbara transformed ordinary moments into lasting treasures.

Her home and heart were always open. She possessed the rare gift of making others feel welcomed, valued, and deeply loved. Her strength provided reassurance, her wisdom offered direction, and her generous spirit brought comfort to many. The love she poured into her family will remain one of the most beautiful expressions of her life's legacy.

Awaiting Barbara in eternal rest are her parents, Willie Burden Sr. and Otha Mae Turner; her brothers, Willie "Chilly Willy" Burden Jr. and Junior Lee Wade; her sister, Susan Mae Wade; and her beloved grandson, Austin Jenkins.

Barbara leaves an enduring legacy of love to her devoted children: Crystal Fay Jenkins; Tiki Monique Killian (Kenneth); Jerry Lee Jenkins III (Andrea); Willie Lee Jenkins Sr. (Juatica); and Chicobea Tavares Wilson Sr.

Her cherished grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart, are Shalena Johnson, Khadijah Mabry, Rena Mabry, Tommie Mabry Jr., Chris Mabry, Tshombe Lewis, Salu Jenkins, Willie Lee Jenkins Jr., Joseph Davis, Kalyn Jones, Braylon Jenkins, Kaley Stamps, Memphis Lush, Myles Lush, Maiya Wilson, Chicobea Tavares Wilson Jr., Mason Jones, Mydison Jones, De'Evan Middleton, Ashley Banks, Bonita Prince, and Shannon Smith.

Her beloved great-grandchildren are Christopher Johnson, Carter Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Dani Johnson, President Carter Jenkins, Chance Jenkins, Kariq Jenkins, Willie Lee Jenkins III, The Lyndon Davis, and Jorie Davis.

She is also lovingly remembered by her bonus and extended children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Joseph Crooks and child; Adrienne Hall and children; Maurice Stokes and children; Ariel Stokes and children; Nadia Middleton; Tyerise Greer; Victoria Jones and children; Tonya Lyons and child; Tracy Scott and children; Rena Mabry and children; Tommy Mabry Jr. and children; Chris Mabry and children; and Chinniki Clark and child.

Those who will continue to honor her memory include her loving siblings, Jessie Mae Allen, Mary Gomez, Patricia Burden-Evans, and Angelakae Burden. She also leaves dear friends with whom she shared treasured bonds: Racheal Bell, Frances Dixon, Sam Griffin Jr., and Darcinar Easley, along with a host of relatives, church family, and friends.

Barbara's life was a radiant testament to steadfast faith, quiet strength, selfless service, and unconditional love. While her earthly presence will be deeply missed, the beauty of her spirit will endure through the lives she touched. Her wisdom will continue to guide, her love will continue to comfort, and her faith-filled legacy will remain forever inscribed upon the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
